Yarn Heart Magnets for Valentine's Day | DIY

DIY’s for me are about projects I can finish or do quickly and mindlessly. The other night Brett had friends over for a Jam Sesh, and I made a few of these magnets while listening to them play The Civil Wars, Dixie Chicks, and Gregory Alan Isokav. It was such an inspiring night making art and singing along to some of my favorite songs.

And this project is about as small and mindless as they get— I’m also really terrible at finishing personal projects sometimes, so the smaller the DIY the better.

What you’ll need: Cardboard, knitting or crocheting yarn (whatever color you love!), a hot glue gun, a magnet.

Step One

Trace a heart onto your cardboard (I used an old amazon box) and cut it out with scissors. Make your heart as big or small as you want it. I knew I would be using my hearts for magnets, so I cut them a bit smaller, so they could fit in the palm of my hand.

Step two

I taped the end of my yarn to the cardboard heart so it would stay in place. Then, I began wrapping the yarn around my heart until all edges and sides of the heart were covered. I tied a knot in the back of the heart when I felt like it was finished.

Step Three

With your glue gun, hot glue the back of your magnet to the back of one of your hearts. Let it cool, and voila! You’ve got yourself a magnet!

The lighting in my living room is pretty terrible, but I absolutely love how these hearts turned out! They make every print on our fridge look a bit more purposeful and cared for!
