Heart-Crazed Mask!
Remember my Galentine’s Day Heart-Crazed top?!
Welp, I went there and turned it into a mask!
For the top, I hot-glued a bunch of felt hearts to a shirt I was getting rid of, and just as I was about to throw it away, I decided to attempt making a mask out of it!
And it totally failed.
I cut out a mask shape, but the material just wouldn’t do what I needed it to do in order for me to have a safe mask.
So, I tried again! Which is what I have to do for almost every project I attempt for the first time.
I sewed up a new mask and sewed the hearts on… and you can make your own too, I’ve laid out How To Make your Own Valentine’s Day mask below!
I love how it turned out and you know I will be wearing it WAY BEYOND Valentine’s Day because it’s a big fun statement piece.
To DIY your own mask:
I like to purchase these very affordable felt squares from my local craft store! Each felt square makes about 6-8 medium size hearts.
Trace hearts onto them then cut them out! Cutting them out is the tedious part of this craft. I had to take breaks because my hand was cramping a bit. If you have a cricut that cuts on felt, you could use that and save your hand some cramps! Maybe cricuts don’t do that? I do not know the ways of the cricutters.
I believe it’s much easier to make your mask first (or purchase a ready made cloth mask), then stitch your hearts on. I followed the steps to create this one. I suck at following directions for sewing, but this one was easy for me to follow.
Lay a few (or all of your) hearts out on your mask to get an idea of what pattern you want. I went for a very messy pattern just to make sure all the material was covered up. If you really have no idea where to start, place the hearts in the center then move out from their. Pro Tip: If you hate where you placed a heart, cut that stitch and re-stitch in a place you love.
All you really need is a stitch in the center of each heart, but if you like all the edges layed down flat, you could add stitches to the edges.
Let your creation dry and wear it round the townnnnnn or on in front of your Bae to woo their heart.

P.S. Washability of the mask— I plan on wearing this over another mask since the CDC is currently recommending double masking— but because the felt hearts are stitched on, I would recommend hand washing your mask, not just throw’n it in the ole washing machinery.
