An Enneagram 9's Morning Mantra

My morning mantra for Enneagram 9's!

In my last post, I discussed the steps I took to live a healthier life as an Enneagram 9.

Moving forward through life's pitfalls.

One of the ways I choose to live healthy every day, is by reading a morning mantra that directly addresses the pitfalls and struggles of an Enneagram 9. My mantra is filled with truth about myself. It reminds me I am not the pitfalls of an Enneagram 9. I do not have to be a procrastinator. I do not have to wonder where the week went and get mad at myself for not getting anything done I was hoping to get done.

Today I wanted to share my mantra with you Enneagram 9’s out there!

Since a 9’s biggest struggle is to stay awake to life— My mantra is titled, “Stay Awake” with a subtitle that reads, “Sluggishness Doesn’t Have a Hold on You”.

Maybe you need help getting started on a Morning Mantra as an Enneagram 9 too? I hope reading mine helps you get started in the direction that’s right for you! This Mantra pulls quotes from The Road Back to You by Ian Morgan Cron and Suzanne Stabile and The Complete Enneagram by Beatrice Chestnut

Stay Awake

1. You can do hard things.

You don’t have to just do the minimum to get by. Getting distracted by non-priorities only makes you forget the big picture and the goals you’ve set. When performing tasks, ask, “Is this a priority?” “Does this align with your goals for the day?” Your motto is not, I can’t so I won’t— it is “I will try”.

2. Avoidance gets you nowhere.

You cannot find peace by avoiding life. - Virginia Woolf

3. Sleepwalking is not living.

A personality on autopilot lulls you into a half-sleeping state in which you find yourself trapped into habitual, repetitious patterns of mindless reactivity you’ve been caught up in since childhood. It’s predictable to the point of hypnotic.

If you are not careful then you can sleepwalk through life.

4. Be connected to what motivates you.

“It can be easy for you to be disconnected from the passion and motivational drive necessary to rise up and live your ‘one wild and precious life’.” - The Road Back to You

5. What do YOU think?

It can be easy to forget your opinions, preferences and priorities. Before agreeing to decisions or tasks, consider if you’ve thought through whether or not you’ve actually thought it through for yourself.

6. What you do is important and you are called to do it.

Do you believe what you do is important? That you matter and your work is important?

8. Make time to be and really connect with yourself, before you “do”.

If you value being over doing, it might be important for you to make space for time to truly “be”— not zone out, but to be and to be contemplative. This is a great alternative to doing, doing, doing and getting lost in your work. The pendulum is never perfectly balanced, but you want to try to not work all the time and you want to try to not be lazy all the time. You thrive when there is clear cut work and non-work time. Honor the time you have set up to work today. And then honor the time you have planned not to work.

9. Wake up and say yes to the adventures of your own life.

Be a “yes” girl. Even to your own ideas and adventures. Be willing to take the train to travel far to a coffee or tea shop that looks cool. Have an alternative plan if it is too crowded or sucks. But be willing to go the distance to have the adventure. Contemplate and enjoy yourself along the way.

10. When you start to procrastinate, ask yourself why.

For example: Writing a book seems hard. Don’t let that push you into unknowns. Create an outline for a book. Always go back to the outline and remember you’ve already made a plan and keep staying committed to the plan. If you start to run away, ask yourself why.

11. Use your potential, even if you fail.

“There’s more honor in defeat than unused potential.” -The Politician

12. My passion and what motivates me:

I run a business that oftentimes feels like a failure which makes me wonder if I’ve dedicated my whole life to running something that will eventually just fail. What if that really happened? If I gave my life and my time to all these things that all just failed? What if every book or blog I feel called to write fails? What if my business fails and my vows don’t ever even make me a full time salary? I feel called to these things. I feel like they are important and I can use my gifting to help them impact people’s lives. I do want a business that grows. A business that values marriage. Because I value marriage. And I want other people to value marriage. That feels good. And right. and something worth pursuing.

As a Christian, I believe God asks me to not just work, but to pursue and love and serve others as I walk this earth. To obey Him and make known the gospel. And if I do that all while failing at everything else, can I trust that He still is good and loves me and has still given me a great purpose?

13. Avoid the numb social media scroll:

Wake up and experience the day before anyone else has influenced it. Experience your spirituality and yourself before anyone has experienced you.
