Mitra: Dessert and a Dramatic Selkie Dress

When you show up in your birthday Selkie Dress with rhinestone Audrey Hepburn gloves on a freezing cold day in March, you can bet it’s worth it.

Mitra pitched a birthday photo session to me and I immediately was excited when she sent me her inspo Pinterest board. It was full of hard flash, flashy outfits, and fun birthday editorials. So we just had fun, she ate some dessert I brought her, and she endured the cold streets of New York while rocking her high heels and Selkie Dress.

And then, when it was time for us to walk Central Park, she put on the funkiest matching set and looked like an absolute disco queen. This green set looked stunning on her and it was SO much fun to have her arms interact with the air around her as each sleeve interacted with gravity.

This session was photographed on a cloudy day, probably my favorite type of day to shoot on.

Mitra let go, had fun, trusted me with prompts that were funky and weird. And I think her photos show her willingness to work with the prompts I gave her. I encouraged her to move her body, to laugh when things were funny and to make those sexy editorial faces whenever she was feeling herself. Right at the end, even thought the ground was cold AF, I asked her if she would lay on the steps at Bethesda Terrace. Those are some of my all time favorite photos. I know most people aren’t excited to lay down on NYC’s floor, but if you ask me, these photos were totally worth it.

Mitra is about to have a baby, and I hope when she looks back at these photos, I hope she remembers this fun and funky person she was and is.
