Dan's Rainy Day Proposal at Top of the Rock

Two lovers, up in the clouds on top of the city. Dan was high on proposal nerves and worried that the clouds would obstruct the view, but after finding the right spot with an amazing cloud-free view, he pulled the ring out, got down on his knee, and proposed. And she said yes while everyone around them cheered them on and applauded their skyscraper love.

Let me tell you about this proposal….. a photographer’s perspective. Dan was worried about the clouds, and I was worried about the rain. But I was ready to do it no matter what. Rain or shine, I told Dan I’d be there with an umbrella ready to make it happen. Dan was nervous to propose and I was nervous to be up 72 floors in the air. Yes, I have a fear of heights. And as much as I love living in this city, I am happy to not hit up any rooftops unless I absolutely have to (which would be for work). And the week of Dan’s proposal, I happened to have another proposal on the 39th floor of another building, which was great because it prepared me well for what Top of the Rock would feel like.

I got there early and spent some time walking around Top of the Rock to breathe through any anxiety I had, to check out the views and attempt to enjoy them. To get a general understanding of how busy it was. It was the perfect day for a proposal. The lighting was perfect.

And guess what? The moment Dan showed up, I wasn’t afraid of anything. I was in work mode. I knew what was most important and it’s like my anxiety was left in the elevator. They arrived and I followed them around until Dan found the best spot. And I tried my best to look subtle and unassuming. Do you know how weird it feels to look subtle and unassuming while also purposefully following someone around?

But the moment was magic. The photos are some of my favorite I’ve ever taken. The views are exquisite. And the love, surprise, and joy are all so so real and beautiful.

And because of this proposal, I desperately hope for more skyscraper proposals, weddings, and engagements. Me, the girl who is anxious up high, finding herself craving more magical moments in the sky.
