Pet Pop-Up Book | The Adventures of Bos

About ten years ago, my sister rescued a dog and named him Bosvakter. I think his name means “Forest Ranger” or “Forest” in Dutch. I’m not sure which. Brett and I hiked through the Amstelveen Forest this past summer and everyone kept calling it the Bos, and it made me laugh. I kept thinking of little Bos walking through the Bos.

Bos was a really sweet and affectionate dog. Halfway through his life, he went blind, but he didn’t really let blindness get him down or keep him from running head first into the river. He was a cuddle bug and blanket bandit.

When Bos passed away, I asked my family to write a few poems to commemorate him. I then turned those poems into illustrations. For awhile, I wasn’t sure what to do with the illustrations until recently I had the idea to turn the illustrations of Bos into a pop up book. So, that’s what I did!

And this is the result.

It’s my first pop-up book to create and my first book to bind, so I definitely see room for improvement (binding a pop-up book was SO confusing logistically!), but I absolutely love how it turned out.

I plan to do more Pet Pop Ups! This was such a fun project! I’m so excited to finally show you pictures!

I’ll make sure to include a short tutorial the next time I make one! Isn’t it so cute though?!
