Day in the Life(style): Patricia

To me, “Taking photos” is this very beautiful creative activity that’s really just happening in between a great conversation as two people use communication to create and build trust.

I spent a delightful hour and a half with Patricia in her beautifully curated apartment (and with her sweet kitty too), and, after chatting for about ten minutes, I knew Patricia is someone who can build trust fast. I think it’s the opera singer in her…. it takes trust with an audience to be vulnerable with them. Or is it the other way around? I think the quicker a client and I can build trust, the more relaxed and laid back their session will feel.

As I’ve been photographing these Day in the Life Sessions, I’ve come to appreciate how experimental we can get in people’s homes. We can create fun, chaos, calm, and authentic moments. There’s something really awesome about photographing people in their homes and if you are someone who has always wanted a photo session in your home, I think we would be a good fit. My goal is to take photos of you in places you love, doing what you love, with people (or fur babies) you love.

I hope as you look through these photos, you feel connected to Patricia’s natural elegance, her warmness, kindness, and joy. She allowed myself and my camera into her beautiful Manhattan home and I am so so grateful. When my clients allow me into their lives whether it’s in their actual homes or by sharing about what’s really going on with them in their life season, I can really see a difference in the creativity and vulnerability in their photos. It’s an honor to photograph them and build a friendship at the same time.

Patricia is an opera singer who is based in Manhattan and travels the world singing. We took a handful of photos with her in her music studio with music scattered around her. We also took a few of her reading some of her favorite books and novels. And then we took a walk in a nearby park (this park was so cool!) that has a really beautiful bridge that connects to The Bronx.

These are the real, simple. every day things for Patricia. It’s so special to have every day moments captured.

As the artist, I chose to edit in both Cool and Warm tones for this session. I like the juxtaposition of both edits and I think they both reflect what the cool natural light and shadows was communicating and the warmth Patricia was exuding. You will see the blue edits first and the warm edits as you continue to scroll.
